Sucharitha scotches rumours of quitting YSRC

VIJAYAWADA: Former AP home minister and YSR Congress MLA Mekathoti Sucharitha on Thursday scotched rumours that she will be quitting the ruling party. There are speculations in social media that she is going to quit YSRC over the phone-tapping controversy and join another party.

Addressing media here, she defended the state government’s phone tapping, saying the intelligence department does keep an eye on wrongdoers and reports on them. “For this purpose, the department does not need to tap anyone's phone,” the former home minister remarked.

She declared that she will remain loyal to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRC. She said, “Jagan provided me the opportunity to be the first woman home minister of Andhra Pradesh. I will forever be thankful to him for that and will not change my party.”

In this regard, Sucharitha recalled Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu asking why anyone would want to be born a Dalit. She maintained that she is proud to be born a Dalit.

“All rumours on social media (on her quitting YSRC) are baseless. If anyone still has doubts, they should contact me. Jagan treats me like a family member and I will not betray him,” she maintained.
