Konathala Ramakrishna To Join Congress: Vizag DCC Chief

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam district Congress committee (DCC) president Gompa Govindaraju on Wednesday disclosed that former minister Konathala Ramakrishna is joining the Congress.

Konathala had once played a key role in Vizag politics as commercial taxes minister in the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government. Subsequently, when Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy floated YSRC, he joined the new party. However, he resigned from the fledgling YSRC, creating a sensation. Since then, Konatala has stayed away from active politics.

Following the Congress victory in Telangana assembly elections, former Congress leader K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao has been getting in touch with those who had once been active in Congress politics. Konathala is a close follower of KVP, as Ramachandra Rao is popularly known. It is said KVP wanted the former minister to join Congress. Now, the Vizag DCC president has announced that Konatala will be joining the Congress.

Incidentally, Gajuwaka sitting MLA Tippala Nagireddy had also met Konatala Ramakrishna. This has led to speculation that the sitting MLA is also moving to the Congress after the YSRC high command made it clear that he will not be fielded again by the ruling party. Nagireddy then tried to get the YSRC ticket for his son Devan Reddy. But the party did not oblige.

There is speculation that the entire Tippala family will be joining the Congress. The family is close to Konatala.
