Hyderabad: Some people in the city reacted strongly to Union Minister Giriraj Singh stating that students going abroad were eating beef because their parents were not teaching them culture. He also commented adversely on homes that did not have Hindu scriptures such as the Geeta, and schools that did not teach the Hindu scriptures.
“I say this because it has been seen that at schools run by missionaries, children from well-off families excel academically, go on to have successful careers, but when they go abroad they eat beef. Why so? This is because we have not inculcated sanskaar into them,” the man who is a Union minister said.
Several people this reporter spoke to were critical of Singh’s pronouncements, and said eating habits do not determine culture and it should be left to one’s choice.
