Congress tie-up not to fetch results: CM Pinarayi Vijayan
KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that a grand alliance of likeminded secular parties was needed to counter the communal forces. However, he said that an alliance with the Congress will not fetch the desired results. Mr Vijayan, who is also politburo member of the CPM, was inaugurating the party's district conference in Koyilandy on Tuesday.
"Both the Congress and the BJP have similar economic policies," he said and added, "the CPM has the same stand towards the Congress and the BJP. The party's stance towards any other party will be decided as per the policies of the other party,"he said.
CPM district secretary P. Mohanan presented a report. A resolution flaying the CBI for arresting CPM leaders in connection with the Payyoli Manoj murder case was also presented. As many as nine leaders, including district committee member T. Chandu, local secretary, area committee members and Payyoli municipality councillor were arrested for the murder of BJP worker Manoj on February 12, 2012.
As many as 400 delegates are participating in the conference, including selected representatives from the 16 area committees and district committee members.Central committee members, E.P Jayarajan, A. K. Balan, state secretariat member M.V. Govindan, Elamaram Kareem among others were present. A public meeting will be held on Thursday evening at Koyilandy municipal stadium where top leaders, including Mr Pinarayi Vijayan, will take part.
