9 TTV MLAs removed from party posts
Chennai: Determined to continue to take stern action against supporters of TTV Dhinakaran, the ruling AIADMK led by EPS-OPS, on Tuesday, fired yet another salvo against the rebel leader by removing nine disqualified MLAs from their party posts.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam had last week promised to take action against all those who acted against the interests of the AIADMK in the RK Nagar byelection in which Dhinakaran won by a huge margin of votes.
In a joint statement, Palaniswami and Panneerselvam said all the nine disqualified MLAs are being relieved from their respective party positions with immediate effect. Speaker P Dhanapal had disqualified the nine as MLAs in September last year after they submitted a letter to the then Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao withdrawing support to Palaniswami.
The MLAs challenged their disqualification at the Madras High Court and the verdict is yet to delivered.
The functionaries' who were removed from party posts on Tuesday are — K Kathirkamu (Periyakulam), S G Subramanian (Sattur), S Mariappan Kennedy (Manamadurai), S Muthaiah (Paramakudi), K Uma Maheswari (Vilathikulam), Jayanthi Padmanaban (Gudiyatam), M Kothandapani (Thiruporur), V T Kalaiselvan (Viruthachalam) and R Sundarraj (Ottapidaram).
Tuesday's action came days after Palaniswami and Panneerselvam removed more than 160 functionaries from primary membership of the AIADMK.
The party also removed six district secretaries from their post immediately after Dhinakaran emerged victorious in the RK Nagar constituency.
