Sasikala to meet AIADMK party cadres from January 4 to 9

Sasikala said she would meet the functionaries at the district, union, town, town panchayat and area levels.

Chennai: As demands for AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala to take over the Chief Minister’s are growing louder, she will hold district-wise meeting of office bearers from January 4 to 9. This is seen as an obvious support building exercise to take over state government’s reins.

In her first statement as general secretary, Ms Sasikala said she would meet the functionaries at the district, union, town, town panchayat and area levels. Besides, she will meet general council members, MPs and MLAs and secretaries of various wings belonging to every district.

On January 4, Ms Sasikala would meet the office bearers from Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, while the meetings with functionaries of Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Namakkal and Erode would be on January 6. On the next day, she would hold discussions with party men from Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Madurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri.

On January 8, she would meet the office bearers belonging to Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari and next day, she would functionaries of Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Nilgiri, Tiruchy, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Karur and Thanjavur.
The meetings with office bearers of every district assumes significance as the announcement comes after appeals to Sasikala from top AIADMK leaders including Lok Sabha deputy speaker M. Thambidurai, senior ministers and functionaries for her to assume charge as Chief Minister.

Going by the schedule, Ms Saikala is unlikely to become Chief Minister before January 9, since she would be busy in the meetings. Besides, she may not announce a decision without meeting party men of all the districts and interacting with them. She took over as general secretary on December 31 and gave her maiden speech in front of cadres. Even during the speech, slogans were raised hailing Ms Sasikala as Chief Minister.
