Bengaluru AAP unit to launch signature campaign for BBMP polls

BENGALURU: Bengaluru unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to launch a massive signature campaign “Hold BBMP elections, Save Bengaluru” to mount pressure on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for holding the elections to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The party plans to launch the three-day campaign on Saturday and aims to collect around 5 lakh signatures from the residents of Bengaluru.

AAP will submit the signatures collected from the residents to Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot and stage a hunger strike on December 5.

The AAP Bengaluru unit president Mohan Dasari at a press conference, accused the State Government of deliberately postponing the BBMP elections since 2020 and the delay in holding elections has resulted in ‘stunted’ growth of Bengaluru. He claimed that owing to garbage problems, potholes, problems related to safety of women among others in Bengaluru city, many residents have been forced to shift from Bengaluru.

Continuing on the ‘stunted’ growth of Bengaluru, Mohan Dasari stated that there was no Mayor and corporators and BBMP has not been functioning properly for the couple of years and out of 2,543 works identified in 2022-23 for which Rs 867 crore has been released so far, only 76 works have started in the city.
