TRS complains against poll prediction by Lagadapati Rajagopal

Mr Rajagopal has announced that from December 1, he would declare the names of two winning candidates every day.

Hyderabad: The TRS has filed a complaint against Mr Lagadapati Rajagopal, former Congress MP, for releasing a pre-poll survey. The party raised objections before the Chief Electoral Officer against naming of independent candidate Sivakumar Reddy as a prospective winner from Narayanpet Assembly constituency and Anil Kumar from Boath (ST).

Though the Election Commission has banned pre-poll surveys, Mr Lagadapati said he would release the survey report at Tirupati, with two names of prospective winners every day till the election results are out.

“Mr Rajagopal has announced that from December 1, he would declare the names of two winning candidates every day. On November 30, he declared the names of two candidates from Narayanpet and Boath Assembly constituencies. It is nothing but disobedience of the orders of the Election Commission of India which has banned such predictions. Mr Rajagopal’s statements are mainly connected with the Assembly elections in Telangana. This is pre-planned by the Opposition to gain undue advantage in the elections. There is every possibility that this kind of propaganda may influence the voters," said a TRS member.

Mr Rajagopal had earlier predicted the victory of the TD in Andhra Pradesh and the TRS in Telangana. He had also predicted that the NDA would form the government at the Centre after the previous Lok Sabha elections.

During the Telangana movement, the former parliamentarian had strongly objected to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and withdrew himself from politics after the division. His surveys were earlier considered as authentic.

On Friday, he said that that eight to 10 candidates contesting independently would win in the Telangana Assembly elections.

This is the second time in the recent past Mr Rajagopal, an industrialist, is creating a controversy. A few weeks ago, he made headlines for supporting a man accused in the Banjara Hills Women's Cooperative Society land scam.
