Thiruvananthapuram: Long march plan may be put off
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KPCC's a long march from Walayar to Thiruvananthapuram Nov 5 – 20 to seek justice to children killed after repeated rape is most likely to be postponed.
A section of leaders apprised KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran that if they go ahead with the march without proper groundwork it will turn damp squib.
Long March refers to the historic trek of the Chinese communists during 1934 - 1935, which resulted in the relocation of the communist revolutionary base from southeastern to northwestern China and in the emergence of Mao Zedong as their undisputed leader.
The KPCC’s Political Affairs Committee wanted to raise a slew of issues ranging from Walayar deaths to Maoist killings on the march.
“Mr Ramachandran was to lead the 16-day march along a 350-km route to the state capital. The initial plan was to cover 15 km a day,” a PAC member told DC.
Even though the idea was welcomed by the PAC members, a section of leaders felt that such an innovative protest should not be undertaken without proper planning.
A former president who is also a member of PAC said that Mr Ramachandran was planning to hold a press meet on Thursday to announce the programme.
“But there has been an afterthought as it requires meticulous planning and preparations," he told DC.
"This led him to postpone the press meet. The new date would be decided without further delay.”
