Hyderabad: In an unexpected move, former minister and Gadwal MLA D.K. Aruna on Saturday tendered ‘conditional’ resignation from her Membership of the Assembly and sent it to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Ms Aruna said that the CM could forward it to the Speaker for approval in case he concedes to the popular demand of making Gadwal a district and if he feels that she is the only stumbling block in the creation of the district. Speaking to the media at the Gandhi Bhavan here, Ms Aruna said that several TRS leaders from Gadwal have been saying that in case Gadwal town is made the district headquarters, she should tender her resignation since she represents the constituency.
In her letter to the CM, Ms Aruna said, “If my continuance as MLA is perceived as a stumbling block to creation of the new district, I wish to submit my letter of resignation for the membership of Assembly; you (Chief Minister) better announce creation of Gadwal district and forward the attached resignation to the Speaker for acceptance”.
She said that creation of any new district must be based on criteria like convenience to the people, geographical and historical background, better infrastructure like roads, railway connectivity etc. besides, population of the area. Ms Aruna said that Gadwal meets all these requirements.
“Unfortunately, in the draft notification Gadwal has been included in Wanaparthy district which is most unjustified. We are not against creation of Wanaparthy district, but not considering Gadwal as a district has caused immense pain and agony to the lakhs of people in Gadwal and Alamapur Assembly constituencies,” Ms Aruna said.
She said that though thousands of objections have been made against including Gadwal in proposed Wanaparthy district, the CM has been adamant in his refusal to create Gadwal district.
Ms Aruna also attached a letter addressed to Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary, requesting him to accept her resignation if the government finally decides to create Gadwal district.
However, as per rules regarding resignations by the members, there is a specific format that was not followed by Ms Aruna while submitting her ‘resignation’ letter. Incidentally, there should not be any conditions for acceptance of the resignation, but in her letter to the Speaker, the MLA set the condition that it should only be accepted if the government declares Gadwal district.
