Convening general council illegal: TTV Dhinakaran

TTV warns of legal action on organisers, participants.

Chennai: AIADMK rebel TTV Dhinakaran has termed “illegal” the convening of general council and executive committee by the EPS-OPS camp on September 12 and threatened of “legal action” against the organisers and those attending it “despite my warning”.

The GC-EC have been convened “only to confuse the party cadre”, Dhinakaran said in a statement, insisting that the party constitution empowers only the general secretary to convene the general council if one-fifth of the members seek it in writing.

“Only Sasikala has the powers to call the council”, said the nephew, who had been stripped of his deputy general secretary post-given by her before she went to Bengaluru to begin her jail term-by the party office-bearers on August 10, triggering his fight-back in wrest control of the party and unseat Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

Reacting to the statement, Finance Minister D Jayakumar said Dhinakaran has no right to use the party name since late J Jayalalithaa had expelled him from the AIADMK.

“His announcement will not be binding on anyone. He holds no position in the AIADMK. His claim to control the party is a big joke,” said the minister, stressing that the general council has been convened “as per the party constitution, with the approval of a third of the general council membership”.
