Pinarayi Vijayan does a Modi, speaks on radio
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said the LDF government would continue to adopt a two pronged approach of long term development and relief for weaker sections besides strengthening the unity of people on the face of face of the threat from divisive forces. In his radio address broadcast through radio stations and FM stations to mark the completion of LDF government’s 100 days in office, he emphasised on issues like drug abuse among children, self sufficiency in food sector, waste management and unity of people.
“The government has completed 00 days in office. We have been able to launch many projects to ensure sustainable growth of the state. Such changes are possible only if people rally behind government’s development activities. I am grateful to the support you have given to us during this period,” he said. “I begin by talking about our children since they are the architect of tomorrow. Attempts are being made to supply drugs and narcotic substances near schools and colleges to hook them,” he said.
The government was taking strong measures against such illegal activities. “I appeal to parents to join hands with the government to remove this scourge,” he said. Pinarayi said garbage was the other big challenge before the government. “Though we are way ahead in literacy, the practice of throwing waste on the streets and open spaces continue unabated. This must change,” he said. The chief minister emphasised on attaining self sufficiency in food sector.
“The beginning should be made from vegetable farming. Let us begin vegetable farming in houses, court yards, open spaces and barren land,” he said. Pinarayi stressed the need for strengthening people’s unity. “Certain forces are trying to destroy the unity of people. Our government is committed to safeguard the unity against divisive forces,” he said.
“Our focus will be on resource mobilisation, infrastructure facilities, relief for weaker sections, women safety, more employment opportunities and price control,” he said and added that some of the steps had already started bearing fruits. “We need to go forward with such constructive activities in the coming days. I assure you that the government is dedicated to work with the people for ushering in overall development,” he said.
