Chandrababu Naidu moves Hyderabad High Court to quash probe order

Chandrababu Naidu says complainant MLA not linked to case.

HYDERABAD: In a significant development in the cash-for-vote scam, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday moved the Hyderabad High Court seeking to quash an order passed by the principal special judge for Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases ordering the ACB of Telangana state to thoroughly investigate into the fresh complaint filed by YSR Congress MLA A. Ramakrishna Reddy.

The petition was moved by way of a lunch motion before Justice M.S.K. Jaiswal. Mr Krishna Prakash, special counsel for AP appearing for Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, prayed before the court to dispense with the filing of the certified copy of the ACB court’s order.

Justice Jaiswal, while considering the request of the counsel, dispensed with the order and directed the counsel to serve a copy of the quash petition to the ACB and the MLA and adjourned the case to Friday.

Mr Naidu in his quash petition contended that the complaint had been filed against him by an MLA from the Opposition in the state as political vengeance.

The MLA had no connection with the case and neither was he an informant or a witness to the crime. He brought to the notice of the court that the MLA had filed the complaint before the ACB court after completion of investigation and filing of the chargesheet by the ACB.

He submitted that the complaint was based on a phone conversation, but the MLA had claimed that he had compared it with his voice during a public speech abroad through forensic examination, and taking such allegations into cognizance by the trial court was not lawful.
