Bengaluru: No chief whip for JD(S)-Congress yet

Though not disclosed yet, the Congress Party is likely to get the post purely on the basis of its strength in the House.

Bengaluru: The Janata Dal (S)-Congress coalition government is yet to choose a candidate for the post of chief whip in the Legislative Assembly even though the joint session of the Legislature is set to begin from Monday.

Sources told Deccan Chronicle that the coordination committee headed by its chairman and former CM Siddaramaiah has decided to finalise a candidate before Governor Vajubhai Vala addresses the joint session at 12:30 pm on Monday. Though not disclosed yet, the Congress Party is likely to get the post purely on the basis of its strength in the House.

It has been a practice for every party to have its chief whip in both the Assembly and the Council for the smooth conduct of the House. Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said no bill would be tabled in the current session since the department had not received it from other departments. With regard to the post of chief whip, he said the coalition’s coordination committee would take a call and in all probability, there would be a single chief whip for both parties.
