MK Stalin says no to his pic in DMK banners

Placing too many banners for a function should be avoided, he said.

Chennai: DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Saturday appealed to party cadre not to use his pictures in party banners and asked them to use only the images of Dravidian leaders E.V.R. Periyar, C.N. Annadurai, party president M. Karunanidhi and general secretary K. Anbazhagan.

Though, he had made such a plea to avoid banners earlier, he said it had not been followed and party functionaries are seeking self-publicity through banner culture. He also warned that action would be taken on those following banner culture.

In an appeal to partymen to abstain from banner culture, Stalin said partymen should avoid acts that irritate the people and meet them in a simple manner avoiding pomposity. In a letter to cadre in party organ ‘Murasoli’, he said the culture of prostrating at leader’s feet had been totally averted in the DMK after his request.

He said partymen had accepted his request to present books instead of shawls and added that those books are being presented to libraries to be used by people, Another ostentatious culture that should be avoided is the banner culture which is nothing but lavishness. Such pomposity would lead to hatred and dissent among the peo-ple.

Placing too many banners for a function should be avoided, he said and added that if the details of a function should be conveyed to the people, few banners could be erected without causing obstacle for the people highlighting the venue and timing of the function.

Even in those banners, the pictures of Dravidian leaders Periyar, Anna, Karunanidhi and Anbazhagan should be displayed, Stalin said and asserted that his pictures should be avoided.
