Banjara body to fight for Lambadas in Supreme Court
ADILABAD: All India Banjara Seva Sangh national president Amar Singh Tilawat on Friday said they would intervene in a Public Interest Litigat-ion (PIL) on behalf of the Lambadas in the Supreme Court.
Mr Tilawat said the Adivasis cannot oppose the entry of governm-ent employees belonging to the Lambada community invoking the PESA Act in villages of scheduled area under the 5th Schedule of the Constitution, which applies to all states except Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram. He said special rights for tribal villages are applicable in the areas that come under four Northeast states under the Sixth Schedule.
He said Article 244(2)C was applicable only to control the money lending operations and to punish the money lenders.
He appealed to the state government to open new schools in Lambada thandas where there are no schools to improve the education facilities. He expressed concern over poor results in SSC exams in the agency areas last year.
