Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran leader V. S. Achuthanandan has sought a discussion in the LDF on chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan's statement on the Mullaperiyar dam.
In a letter to CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, the veteran leader pointed out that Pinarayi Vijayan’s statement on new dam was against LDF's well stated position. The chief minister's statement had created apprehensions in the minds of people, he said.
Achuthanandan said he was not aware whether the chief minister had made the statement after discussing the matter in state secretariat. The LDF needs to discuss the issue and bring more clarity.
The CPM and LDF had earlier accepted the proposal for a new dam at Mullaperiyar . Since the issue concerns people residing in three districts, the chief minister’s statement has generated a feeling that the LDF government was shedding the new dam proposal. Achuthanandn demanded the leaders to bring more clarity on the issue and remove the apprehensions and concerns of the people.
