Tirupati: TD cadre obstruct YSRC nominee’s campaign
Tirupati: Tension prevailed at Mangilipattu village in Chandragiri constituency after some of the villagers, believed to be the supporters of Telugu Desam, restricted YSR Congress nominee Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy from campaigning in the village on Monday. Heated arguments were exchanged between the cadre of TD and YSRC that led to clashes later.
According to sources, the TD supporters in the village had allegedly tried to jolt the YSRC MLA candidate amidst the support of huge party cadre from both sides. It was observed that during the argument, an aged man, believed to be a TD supporter, took out his belt and flipped it in the air to threaten the Opposition cadre.
The clashes broke out then and the cadre of both the parties jolted against each other.
However, after the police intervened, partymen were pacified and Mr Chevireddy left the place by cancelling his poll campaign at the village.
Recently, a series of clashes had broken out in several hamlets between YSRC and TD local leaders, who also filed police cases against each other, on several occasions. There were some instances in which the local leaders and cadre of both the parties indulged in physical war where in several sustained injuries.
On Saturday night, a heated argument related to poll campaign between the followers of both the parties at Panapakam in this constituency also led to clashes between the cadre.
In the incident, four persons got injured and were later shifted to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati. As per the instructions of Chandragiri RO Dr Mahesh Kumar, the police booked an FIR against eight people on charges of violation of election code.
