Lok Sabha less likely to take up no-trust motion

The Supreme Court had directed the Central government to constitute the Cauvery Water Management Board by March 29.

Hyderabad: It is unlikely that the no-confidence motion against the government will be taken up for discussion in the Lok Sabha on Monday too.

The AIADMK has given a call for a one-day hunger strike across Tamil Nadu on Monday on the Cauvery water issue and the party’s MPs are likely to continue their protests in the house to highlight their party’s hunger strike.

Moreover, the Central government has requested the Supreme Court to give some more time for constitution of the Cauvery Water Management Board.

Unless the BJP takes a decision to suspend the AIADMK members if they stall the proceedings on Monday, there is no chance of any discussion on the no-confidence motion as this second leg of the Budget session has only five days to run. On April 6 both Houses of Parliament will adjourn sine die according to the schedule.

The Supreme Court had directed the Central government to constitute the Cauvery Water Management Board by March 29. Had this been done, AIADMK MPs may not have continued their protest and the notice on the no-confidence motion could have come up for discussion. But the Central government is reluctant to constitute the Board with the Karnataka Assembly elections to to be held shortly.
