AIADMK MPs may not end Lok Sabha protests
Hyderabad: It is unlikely that the no-confidence motion against the government will be taken up for discussion in the Lok Sabha on Monday too.
The dispute over sharing the waters of the Cauvery river is between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and the BJP does not want to do anything that will impair its chances in a state it is obsessively keen to win. It has thus sought more time from the Supreme Court to constitute the Board.
This is like waving a red rag before a bull and AIADMK MPs are likely to continue their protests in the Lok Sabha. The main opposition party in Tamil Nadu, the DMK, is also putting pressure on the ruling AIADMK.
In July 2015, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had suspended all Congress MPs from the House for five consecutive days when they stalled the pr-oceedings of the House demanding the resignation of Union minister Sushma Swaraj and Raj-asthan CM Vasundhara Raje for helping former IPL cricket chief Lalit Modi. Though the 37 AIADMK MPs are doing much the same thing, the Speaker adjourns the House every day and refuses to take up the no-trust vote because the House is not in order, but she has not suspended the protesting MPs, as the AIADMK is a friendly party.
