Karnataka: Modi, BSY making empty promises, say senior Congress leaders

Leaders of BJP are never concerned about the poor, the backward classes and farmers.

Mysuru: Senior Congress leaders M. Mallikarjun Kharge, M Veerappa Moily and Dr G Parameshwar on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and state BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa with making empty promises in order to win over voters of Nanjangud and Gundlupet constituencies.

Addressing a rally in Nanjangud, Mr Kharge said: “Bharatiya Janata Party leaders are day dreaming about returning to power during next year’s Assembly elections, but people here must pass on a message that Karnataka is not Uttar Pradesh. In 2008, they did not have the people’s mandate, but they grabbed power through Operation Kamala. Leaders of BJP are never concerned about the poor, the backward classes and farmers. They have no moral right to speak about development. Congress leaders strived for the welfare of farmers’ by launching several irrigation projects.”

Dr Parameshwar called upon the Congress party workers to highlight the projects of the state Government to every household and to ensure victory of the party candidates in Nanjangud and Gundlupet constituencies. “Though Mr Srinivas Prasad was MLA for eight years, he has not focussed on construction of houses for people belonging to Uppar community. And Mr Yeddyurappa, who was sent to jail in a corruption case, dreams of returning to power in the 2018 Assembly elections,” he added

Mr Veerappa Moily accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of adopting policies which are anti-Dalit and anti-backward classes, and spoke of how the Congress party ensured inclusion of Uppars and Nayaks under the Scheduled Tribes category.
