Cow killers to be hanged, says Raman Singh
New Delhi: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat made cow slaughter punishable with life imprisonment and after the recent crackdown on illegal slaughter house in UP, Chattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Saturday went a step ahead and announced that those who kill cow will be “hanged”.
“Pichhale 15 saal se ek bhi ghatna aisee nahi huee...jo maarega usko latka denge (Not a single incident of cow slaughter has taken place in the last 15 years...anyone who does so will be hanged),” said Mr Singh, who was in Bastar, replying to media questions when asked if Chhattisgarh was also considering any changes to law on cow slaughter.
Retail meat sellers not hit, says Raman Singh
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Saturday also announced that those who kill cow will be “hanged.”
A Chhattisgarh government spokesperson, however, clarified to this newspaper that the CM never meant capital punishment. “In administrative parlance, ‘latka denge’ means ‘will take (offenders) to task,” the spokesperson said.
As UP faced shortage of meat following the clampdown on illegal abbatoirs, state health minister Siddharth Nath Singh said the crackdown was aimed at making them compliant with the court guidelines. Moreover, retail meat sellers have not been hit.
