Vadakara all set for four-cornered contest

The confusion in the UDF over seat sharing with the allies and the infighting within the JD (U) are delaying their candidates too.

Kozhikode: With the announcement of K.K. Rema as RMP candidate in Vadakara, the constituency is set to witness a four-cornered fight. Though a consensus is yet to be reached on the Janata Dal (S) candidate, sitting MLA C.K. Nanu is the front runner. The confusion in the UDF over seat sharing with the allies and the infighting within the JD (U) are delaying their candidates too.

A faction of JD(S) workers had protested against sending observers Johnykkutty and Murukadas to the constituency after deciding Mr Nanu in the first round. The district committee, constituency committee and state committee members from Vadakara gave their opinions on the candidates.

The other names mentioned were that of M.K. Premnath, E.P. Damodaran and K. Lohya. Meanwhile, the JD (U) is yet to decide the candidate. In the last Assembly poll, Socialist Janata had lost to JD (S) for a mere 847 votes. This is one constituency in Kozhikode where the UDF has a winning chance.

Though the name of district president Manayath Chandran was heard in the beginning, because of his recent rift with the top leaders, Eramala panchayat former president M.K. Bhaskaran came to the scene.

The BJP has fielded Mr M. Rajesh Kumar, constituency president, Yuva Morcha former state committee member and ABVP joint secretary. It hopes to improve its position from the previous elections when Mr M.P. Rajan had secured 6,909 votes.
