Chennai: Demonstrating steady progress in his health, which had deteriorated due to advanced age and multiple ailments these last couple of years, DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi played cricket with his great grandson albeit seated in chair the Gopalapuram residence.

The ‘thrilling’ match featuring the nonagenarian throwing the ball with remarkable sense of direction and flight, and the two-year-old son of Arivunidhi, the actor-son of MK’s fourth son Tamilarasu, swinging the little plastic bat, might have lasted just a few minutes on Wednesday but its video has gone viral and caused big excitement among the DMK cadres.

“This has become an even more exciting post on the social media than thalapathi’s birthday celebration today (Thursday)”, said a party senior, attempting comparison between MK’s bowling and his son Stalin’s birthday events. Actually, Stalin had an impressively busy b’day schedule beginning with the visit to his parents to seek his blessings, trip to the memorials of Periyar and Anna and the greeting-session with party cadre at the DMK Arivalayam headquarters. He also had his grandson offering flowers at Periyar Thidal in Egmore.

“The video of thalaivar (Karunanidhi) playing cricket with great grandson is bound to hugely enthuse our party cadres as it shows he is gaining in health. These visuals and the pictures of thalapathi (Stalin) celebrating his birthday by mingling with the party functionaries and cadres, have emerged as double bonus for the DMK members”, said DMK spokesman TKS Elangovan, MP.
