GHMC polls: Parties clash over cash distribution
Hyderabad: Skirmishes between rival parties and complaints of misuse of power against the TRS marked the last day before the GHMC polls. On Monday many cases regarding alleged distribution of money by TRS leaders cropped up.
Congress workers came to blows with TRS activists in Balajinagar, Kukatpally, over alleged distribution of money. Some Congress workers were injured in the melee.
TD MLA from Serilingampally Mr Arikepudi Gandhi and Hydernagar TD candidate Mr Prasad staged a dharna demanding the arrest of TRS leaders for distributing money. Police dispersed the protesters.
In Hayatnagar, BJP leader Mr K. Ravinder Reddy, along with his supporters, allegedly attacked the TRS office and destroyed furniture and poll material. TRS leaders lodged a police complaint.
There was also trouble between TRS and TD workers over distribution of cash in Quthbullapur, Nizampet and Kukatpally. TD leaders detained the Siricilla MPP for allegedly transporting money to distribute among voters.
Similar incidents were registered at Ramanthapur, Yousufguda divisions.
TRS-BJP clash
On Monday, ex-mayor and MLA Teegala Krishna Reddy’s car was damaged during a clash between TRS and BJP workers in RK Puram near LB Nagar.
Congress spokesman Mr G. Niranjan lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission (SEC) against the TRS for its “Vote for TRS” advertisement campaign on WAY2SMS, Google ads and Yahoo mail sites.
TD leaders L. Ramana and R. Chandrashekar Reddy also lodged a complaint with the SEC alleging that TRS workers had deployed anti-social elements from outside the city.
Independent held
Independent candidate from Suraram division Mr Bommakanti Anand was arrested by the Jeedimetla police for distributing fans to voters.
The police also registered cases against TD and CPI workers for distributing liquor and seized 200 bottles. Cyberabad SOT police also seized five cartons of liquor bottles from a car.
Cyberabad election cell ACP Mr K. Ravinder Reddy told DC that about 49 cases were registered for violation of the model code of conduct along with another 46 excise related cases.
