Naresh Uttam new UP chief; Mulayam expels 2 MPs

Lucknow: The “newly appointed” Samajwadi Party president and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has appointed Naresh Uttam as the new state president of the party.

The appointment comes after the removal of Shivpal Yadav at the national convention earlier on Sunday.

Naresh Uttam is a senior party leader and a three term MLC. He belongs to the Kurmi community and his appointment is significant since Akhilesh Yadav is keen to contest the upcoming Assembly elections form Bundelkhand that has a sizeable Kurmi population.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, on Sunday, expelled two party MPs, Naresh Agarwal and Kironmoy Nanda from the party for alleged anti-party activities.

Both are Rajya Sabha members and had taken part in the “emergency national convention” in Lucknow on Sunday.
