TTV Dhinakaran challenges EC order on Two Leaves

On November 23, the Commission had said that the Panneerselvam-Palaniswami faction enjoys support of majority of members.

Chennai: T. T. V. Dhinakaran on Thursday moved the Delhi High Court against the Election Commission’s decision allotting the Two Leaves symbol to the unified AIADMK under Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy CM O. Panneerselvam, as the real party.

The plea for urgent hearing of the matter was mentioned before a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar and sought to quash the November 23 order of the Election Commission of India (ECI). Senior advocate Kirti Uppal, appearing for Sasikala and Dhinakaran, said the matter required urgent hearing as the poll panel’s order was bad in law and needed to be set aside. Agreeing, the bench listed the matter for hearing on Friday.

On November 23, the Commission had said that the Panneerselvam-Palaniswami faction “enjoys support of majority of members, both in the organisational and legislature wings” of the AIADMK, and was entitled to use the party name and its ‘Two Leaves’ symbol.”
