Lead all-party delegation to save VSP, PK urges government

The ruling party should initiate an all-party JAC and invite stakeholders, political parties to pressurise Centre

VISAKHAPATNAM: Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan on Sunday asked the state government to announce in a week's time on how it intends to save Vizag Steel Plant (VSP) from privatisation.

He made the remark while participating in the ongoing ‘Andhrula Hakku - Visakha Ukku’ protest by VSP workers against the privatisation move.
Addressing the gathering, he said that their party did not have the strength to pressurise the Centre like that of YSRC, which has 152 MLAs.

"I don't like to ask the Centre on the steel plant's privatisation issue as its protection comes under the state purview. The ruling party should initiate an all-party JAC and invite stakeholders and political parties. We all should jointly pressurise the Centre to save VSP. The YSRC should announce its decision within a week, failing which we will take this protest to the next level," the actor-politician said.

He recalled that when there were huge protests against privatisation of Dredging Corporation in Vizag in 2017, the TDP-led state government put in efforts that eventually put an end to privatisation of the Centre-run unit.

Around 32 people had sacrificed their lives to get the steel plant. Its protection is the responsibility of every Andhrite, he said.
