Shias protest neglect, seek tickets

The members said Shia Muslims are in large number in that constituency, but no party has considered them.

Hyderabad: With no candidate from the Shia community being given a ticket in the Charminar constituency by any of the political parties, the community members, in a meeting held on Sunday in Hyderabad, condemned the manner in which they were being sidelined.

The members said Shia Muslims are in large number in that constituency, but no party has considered them. Mr Mir Hadi Ali, Hyderabad unit president of All India Shia Organisation, said, “The problems of our Ashoorkhana's and those in the Wakf Board are not being heard at all. The community is being sidelined as there is no political presence. In the forthcoming state elections, no political party has considered us.”

The meeting has looked at two options either to boycott the Assembly elections or to field their own independent Shia Muslim candidate.
