BRS leaders seek change of sitting MLAs in some constituencies

WARANGAL: A demand for change of some BRS MLAs, whose candidatures were announced by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for various assembly segments, is gaining steam in erstwhile Warangal district.

Telangana statehood activists and leaders of various people’s organisations met under the leadership of Sandela Sunil and Arey Sankshema Sangham state convener Jenda Rakesh at a private function hall in Parkal assembly segment on Thursday. They opposed the candidature of sitting MLA Dharma Reddy.

They alleged that Dharma Reddy who had shifted from the TD to the BRS was ignoring the activists and student leaders who fought for separate statehood for Telangana and encouraging the leaders who joined BRS from other parties. They opposed the preference being given by the BRS leadership to those who insulted the Telangana activists.

After joining the ruling BRS, the MLA increased his wealth from Rs 200 crore to Rs 2,000 crore through contracts and by diverting the funds sanctioned for various developmental works in the constituency, the meeting alleged.

The participants urged the party leadership to remove the name of Dharma Reddy from the list of new BRS candidates. In an ultimatum to the party, they said if the leadership retained Dharma Reddy as the party nominee for the upcoming polls, “we would ensure his defeat.”

Former Agriculture market committee chairman Azmeera Prahlad -- son of the former minister Chandu Lal -- who was aspiring for the BRS party ticket for Mulugu assembly segment was disappointed at announcement of Bade Nagajyothi’s name by KCR.

He held a meeting with his supporters at Sarangapalli village and claimed that he strove hard for strengthening the BRS from village level in the Mulugu constituency, but the party leadership did not recognize these efforts and allotted the party ticket to Nagajyothi.

Prahlad said a vote bank existed in Mulugu district for his deceased father, for all the good work he had done, and these voters are now backing him. He said, “I would even contest as a rebel candidate of the BRS party in the coming assembly elections.”

In another development, some BRS leaders held a secret meeting opposing the candidature of Mahabubabad sitting MLA, Shankar Naik, and passed a resolution saying they would not support the MLA in the coming assembly elections.

They claimed that MLA Naik is not going to win the seat again. “The BRS will lose its image if it fields Shankar Naik from Mahabubabad constituency,” they said.
