Vijayawada: Order to paint Grama Panchayat buildings draws flak
VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress Government has drawn flak for issuing an order to give a fresh coat of paint to suit the party colour for all existing Grama Panchayat (GP) buildings with available funds in the state.
The State Government issued a direction in this regard to all the district collectors and asked them to keep a photograph of the Chief Minister on one side of the name board, covering nearly one-fourth of the space on the board. It also instructed the collectors to follow the colour code on the Grama Panchayat buildings.
Panchayat raj and rural development commissioner M. Girija Sankar issued letter No. 751/CPR&RD/S/2019, dated August 28, 2019. Details pertaining to design of the building and colour code have been also specified.
Accordingly, around 11,158 Grama Panchayats are to be painted with YSR Congress’ colour, in addition to keeping the photograph of the CM in the name boards in a specified space.
BJP raised objection over the State Government’s move and said that the Grama Panchayat offices are not the party offices of YSR Congress Government.
