Advantage Telangana Rashtra Samiti in Khammam district

Party will reap political gains with reorganisation.

Khammam: Telangana Rashtra Samiti had immediate political advantages with the formation of new districts than the other political parties in Khammam and Kothagudem. The ruling party will emerge as a major political party in the residuary Khammam district and Kothagudem to be in existence from Dasara.

The party had district headquarters MLA and MP and another two legislators in Khammam district. The party candidate and minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao won directly in Palair Assembly segment.

Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar (Congress) and Khammam MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy (YSRC) joined the ruling party. Another MLA Madanlal (YSRC) of Wyra took membership of TRS. With this, the ruling party had the advantage of having its MLAs near the district headquarters such as Khammam, Palair and Wyra apart from MP Ponguleti.

Congress and Telugu Desam are representing Madhira and Sattupalli Assembly segments, which had above 60 km distance to the headquarters. It is easy for the high command of TRS to settle the internal squabbles of the party and also manage the power centres in smaller districts.

Though the other political parties will have such advantages, TRS can use this facility in getting back power in 2019 elections.

In Kothagudem too, the ruling party had headquarters MLA Jalagam Venkata Rao and another three MLAs Koram Kanakaiah (Congress) and Thati Venkates-warlu and Payam Venkateswarlu of YSRC and joined in TRS.

Left parties such as CPI, CPM and New Democracy, which had its cadre in both the districts, will face some difficulties in organising protests against the government. CPM had some advantage in Kothagudem because of its MLA in Bhadrachalam than Khammam district.

So far, the Left parties used to mobilise its cadre from 10 Assembly segments and organise stirs on various issues against the government.

Congress had a lone MLA in Khammam district and no presence in Kothagudem district. The party should build up its cadre in Kothagudem by choosing a new DCC president there.

The situation of Telugu Desam in newly constituted Kothagudem is vulnerable. The party is weak in all the five Assembly segments in Kotha-gudem district and the party may remain as a small one there.

New Democracy, which had its strength in Yellandu, will be scattered in three districts in the new set up. The political parties should evolve new strategies in the new districts to consolidate their strength there.
