HYDERABAD: The Left parties stated that their doors were still open for alliance with the BRS for the upcoming Assembly elections, and it did not mean getting seats to contest. They admitted that they have not been able to meet BRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao despite repeated attempts.
The two communist parties had allied with the BRS for the November 3, 2022, Munugode byelection.
The two parties are to continue their friendship with BRS to check BJP in Telangana. It was also decided that CPI and CPM should jointly contest the Assembly polls.
On Friday, CPI and CPM leaders met at Maqdom Bhavan, the CPI state office, to discuss the strategy for Assembly polls. CPI state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram, CPM state secretary Kunamneni Sambashiva and senior leaders were present.
Speaking to the media, Veerabhadram denied reports that the Left parties had decided to part ways with the BRS and join hands with the Congress. He said the policy of the Left parties at the national level was to defeat the BJP due to which they had allied with the BRS, which was stronger than the Congress, for the Munugode bypoll. Their friendly ties with the BRS were continuing, he said.
Sambasiva Rao clarified that the Left parties had not taken a U-turn with regard to friendly ties with the BRS. However, he said that the responsibility of taking anti-BJP forces along lay with the Chief Minister.
The CPM leader said having friendly ties was not about sharing Assembly seats
but to work together to defeat the BJP.
"We will not wait for the BRS to give us some Assembly seats. We will proceed with our political activities independently in Assembly constituencies wherever we are strong," Sambasiva Rao said.
