Penalise those taking unilateral decisions: K C Venugopal
Bengaluru: Several Congress leaders who met AICC general secretary, K.C. Venugopal during his two day visit to the city, appealed to him to take strict action against leaders who unilaterally take decisions for which the party has to pay a heavy price.
These leaders referred to issues such as the tabling of controversial bills on the ban on extravagant marriages, restricting the guest list of marriages, taking control of maths, taking control of universities, banning superstition and the recent bill to indirectly control private hospitals besides the unsuccessful no-confidence motion against Council chairman D. H. Shankaramurthy. They said these were ‘botched up decisions’ which have taken a toll on the morale of grassroot level workers.
The leaders reportedly appealed to Mr Venugopal to make sure that any important decision is discussed in the Congress legislature party meeting or in the cabinet if not in the party's co-ordination committee, so that party leaders are aware of it and are prepared with counter arguments to defend such decisions.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior leader observed that most of these controversial decisions came from the camp owing allegiance to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
“Although the intentions may be good, the perception among the people is that the Congress is yet to get its decision making process right. Often, the energy of grassroot workers energy is squandered in defending these decisions and in damage control exercises,” the leader said.
