MK Stalin demands white paper on flood prevention measures

He said the issue was raised by him in the Assembly and party leader M Karunanidhi too had raised the issue.

Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Thursday demanded a white paper on flood prevention works in Chennai and questioned how the money allocated for works were spent.

Talking to the media at the DMK headquarters here, he said there were thousands of vacancies in police department and they had not been filled even after the Madras high court directed the state government to fill the vacancies in police department.

He said the issue was raised by him in the Assembly and party leader M. Karunanidhi too had raised the issue.

The permitted strength of police force in the state is 1,21,014, but there is a vacancy of 19,157. The state government should also announce the pending promotions in the department and end the rise in crimes, he said. It is the duty of the state government to check the growth of rowdies and stop the spate of murders in the state.

Earlier, TMC Coimbatore (South) district secretary V.M. Mohanraj, MDMK chief political advisory committee member K. Varadarajan and 100 office-bearers of DMDK and MDMK from the district, joined the DMK, in the presence of Stalin.
