Left parties, VCK slam attack on IIT student

CPI(M) state secretary G.Ramakrishnan condemned the state police for filing cases on students who were victims.

Chennai: Left parties and VCK on Wednesday slammed the attack on IIT student Sooraj by ABVP activists and demanded the arrest of those who indulged in the assault and those who incited it.

CPI(M) state secretary G.Ramakrishnan condemned the state police for filing cases on students who were victims. He also said the police had brutally assaulted students and youth who protested against the attack in front of IIT and the hand of a woman protester had been fractured. Police should abandon acts like arresting and filing cases against those protesting for culinary rights.

Condemning the attack, CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan said action should be taken on the violent mob who attacked students who registered their post against the cattle sale ban for slaughter. VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan demanded proper treatment to the injured student, besides the arrest of those who attacked him. The new rules for cattle sale for slaughter should be withdrawn by the Prime Minister to stop the spreading of violence throughout the country. Naam Thamizhar movement leader P. Seeman demanded the arrest of ABVP activists under the Goondas Act.
