Didn't know it was RSS, says CPM MLA KU Arunan

The local committee of the CPM has also been asked to submit an explanation in this regard.

Kochi: The CPM Thrissur district committee on Wednesday has sought an explanation from party MLA from Iringalakuda K.U. Arunan for inaugurating a public function organised by a local RSS shakha of Oorakam in Thrissur on Monday. The local committee of the CPM has also been asked to submit an explanation in this regard.

The action of Arunan has snowballed into a major controversy as the CPM MLA sharing the venue with known RSS leaders has gone viral in social media outlets.

Speaking to reporters in Thirssur party district secretary K Radhakrishnan said the MLA and the local party unit have been asked to submit explanation.

“Further action will be based on the explanation”, he added. Terming the incident as accident, Arunan said he attended the function without being aware that the programme was organised by the RSS unit.

“The CPM branch secretary named Kishore called me and asked to attend the function. I was not aware that it was an RSS programme”, he said.

Expressing regret over the incident the MLA said he is ready to accept any action taken by the party in this regard. Arunan inaugurated a books distribution prorgamme in memory the late P.S. Shine, RSS Seva Pramukh on Monday.

The matter has come as a huge embarrassment for the CPM as the party recently launched a tirade against IUML women’s wing leader inaugurating the fund collection drive of BJP in Malappuram. The Congress block panchayat member Thomas Thathappally was also present in the function at Oorakam. Congress also has sought an explanation from Mr. Thathappally.
