Ramesh Chennithala to promote merit
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Before taking over as Opposition leader, Ramesh Chennithala called on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Tuesday. Mr Chennithala later told reporters that the party would consider leaders who have got the mettle and the deserved.
On Monday, he had called on Ahmed Patel, political secretary of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Before his talks with Mr Gandhi, he held talks with former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit, one of the observers at the Congress Legislative Party meeting at KPCC office here on Sunday that chose him.
Newly elected Chief Minister of Puducherry, V. Narayanaswamy, came to Kerala House to congratulate him on his new role. He wished him and described it as a stepping stone to the next Chief Minister. Along with Mr Narayanaswamy and AICC secretary in charge of the State Dipak Babaria, he headed to CPM politburo member M. A. Baby’s room where they had a sumptuous Kerala lunch.
