YS Jaganmohan Reddy vows to name Krishna after NT Rama Rao

On the 147th day of his Praja Sankalpa Yatra, Jagan visited Nimma-kuru village, the birthplace of NTR, in Pamarru Assembly.

Vijayawada: In what is being seen as a masterstroke in political circles, YSR Congress supremo Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has announced that if voted to power, he will rename Krishna district after late chief minister N.T. Rama Rao (NTR), revered as an icon in the Kamma-dominated district.

On the 147th day of his Praja Sankalpa Yatra, Jagan visited Nimma-kuru village, the birthplace of NTR, in Pamarru Assembly constituency on Monday. There has been criticism that though NTR's party Telugu Desam has been in power for several years after NTR’s death, there have been no attempts to rename Krishna district after the legendary actor-politician, which Jagan has used to his advantage.

Jagan later tweeted, “NTR garu devoted his life to the service of Telugus, especially the downtrodden. As a tribute, standing on his home ground Nimmakaru, I pledge to rename Krishna district as 'Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR)' district.”
