Kummanam Rajasekharan sees testing days ahead
Thiruvananthapuram: Following the launch of a massive Rs 100-crore fundraising drive last week, the BJP is holding district committee meetings to report deliberations at its state committee held in Palakkad April 18–19. BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan feels the days ahead are testing times for him and his team. Though the fundraising campaign has been the agenda set by the state leadership, national president Amit Shah is looking beyond money matters.
Though Mr Rajasekharan claims there is no strict target of Rs 100 crore, they have no other alternative but a door-to-door campaign. Another senior BJP leader quipped that it was a “do or die” situation with “no proper rest” until they achieve Mr Shah's target. The immediate challenge is to form more than 20, 000 booth committees across the State before his July 25-27 visit. In Mr Rajasekharan's words, Mr Shah is keen to spread the party to the remaining 35 percent area in the country where the party is not in power.
“Mr Shah has asked me to seek funds from the grassroots as well as the wealthy and famous," he told DC. "He keeps asking me to hold mass contact programmes to take government schemes to the people. Thirdly, spread the objectives of the Ekatma Manav Darshan propagated by Deendayal Upadhyaya.” The state leadership is training supporters who have come forward to work full time for a year and six months, and 35 have evinced keen interest to work for a year and another 70 for six months towards the victory of the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
