Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday directed officers to complete ongoing drinking water projects in drought-hit areas expeditiously.
During a meeting with officers of rural development and panchayat raj department here, he told them to meet the demand for drinking water by accelerating implementation of schemes approved so far.
He assured them that adequate funds required for completion of drinking water projects would be released by the government.
So far, 293 multi village drinking water schemes have been completed in order to quench the thirst of 61.75 lakh people in 2787 habitations across the state.
In addition, 94.68 lakh people would be benefited through implementation of multi-village drinking water scheme, he told the officers adding that they should ensure supply of drinking water to every household in drought-affected areas.
In 2015-16, the government has given permission to 8489 water purification units and so far 2982 units have been installed at a cost of Rs. 221 crores, according to RDPR minister H.K. Patil.
