Rahul Gandhi entry to boost morale in south India

The decision is seen as an attempt by the AICC leadership to consolidate its electoral base in South India.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress president Rahul Gandhi's candidature will be a morale booster for not only the KPCC leadership but for Congress activists across South India. The LDF and NDA camps got a rude jolt on Sunday morning when CWC leader A. K. Antony announced the candidature of Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad. With unc-ertainty prevailing for more than a week, the rival camps had not exp-ected a favourable stand from Rahul on contesting from Kerala. The decision is seen as an attempt by the AICC leadership to consolidate its electoral base in South India.

“Rahul Gandhi’s entry will throw away the fascist forces and bring in a democratic and secular government at the helm. His candidature opens a new chapter in the Kerala political scenario”, said V. M. Sudheeran, former KPCC president.

It should be recalled that AICC chief spokes-person Randeep Singh Surejewala had said in New Delhi on Sunday that Rahul Gandhi will be representing three Southern states, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with Wayanad. He added that Rahul Gandhi will be able to strengthen the thread that ties North and South India together.

The local Wayanad DCC leadership is upbeat about Rahul Gandhi’s entry where they feel that developmental activities will be brought as they claim that LDF leadership had sidelined the district when it comes to rebuilding it post the floods.
