Edappadi Palanisamy lauded for making case for AIIMS at Sengipatti

Sengipatti is well connected by road, rail and air with an international airport at Tiruchy.

Thanjavur: The agitation committee for setting up an All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) at Sengipatti near Thanjavur thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapadi Palaniswami for appealing to Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India to set up the AIIMS at Sengipatti near Thanjavur during his (CM’s) meeting with the Prime Minister at Delhi on Monday.

In a press release issued here on Tuesday, Durai, Mathivanan and V. Viduthalaivendhan, co-ordinators of the agitation committee said that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had categorically said that the AIIMS should be set up at Sengipatti.

They also said that a central committee saw the place identified for establishing the AIIMS at Sengipatti when it visited Tamil Nadu to identify the place for setting up the institute.

At Sengipatti, 206 acres and eleven cents land under the control of the district administration is available. Sengipatti is well connected by road, rail and air with an international airport at Tiruchy.

Thanjavur Medical College Hospital and Rajah Mirasudhar Government hospital are available at Thanjavur. The committee has been organising agitations in support of its demand ever since the central government announced the setting up of one AIIMS in Tamil Nadu.
