Public, political parties unhappy with Budget as no package for Amaravati

Allocating funds for highway development was, however, a good decision, but not the sum of Rs 100 crore for Polavaram.

Guntur: Citizens have expressed disappointment over the Union budget as the finance minister did not announce any package for the state nor for the construction of the capital city of Amaravati. The business community is also not satisfied with the budget as it did not have incentives.

District TD president and MLA G.V. Anjaneyulu hoped that there would be allocations for the state in the supplementary budget, the finance minster having given priority to rural development and agriculture.

Allocating funds for highway development was, however, a good decision, but not the sum of Rs 100 crore for Polavaram. He hoped that allocations would be made for the capital.

MP Y. Sivaji observed that though the central government claimed that they allocated the lion’s share of the Budget to the agriculture sector, implementation was key, and expressed doubt whether this would be done.

CPM district secretary P. Ramarao observed that concessions were given to corporates at the cost of the common man. Polavaram and Metro did not get importance in this budget, he added. Allowing the private sector through the PPP mode in the RTC, railways and health, was to favour them.

CPI state joint secretary M. Nageswara Rao too ran down the allocations to Polavaram. The central government should come to the rescue of the state in meeting its deficit, he added.
