Chandrababu Naidu talks to Rahul Gandhi, didi on Triple Talaq bill
Vijayawada: TD supremo and AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has asked his MPs to strongly oppose the triple talaq bill as and when it is introduced in the Rajya Sabha.
He also spoke to Congress president Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the strategy to be adopted in the Rajya Sabha when the Bill is introduced. He said the BJP has been vindictive towards the male members of a particular religion. Law should be equal for everyone irrespective of their religion, he said.
Talking to reporters, Mr Naidu said TD objects to the punishment clause for Muslim men in the Triple Talaq Bill. He said that they were part of the country’s population. The BJP, he added, was adamant on introducing the Bill for political gains. Mr Naidu said all opposition parties need to be united to stop BJP’s autocratic way of functioning. He added that there were attacks on minorities, and Muslim men now should not be a target. A feeling of insecurity among any group like Muslims is not good for national integrity, he said underlining India’s secular credentials. He said all non-BJP parties should unite and fight for the rights of Muslim minorities. He asked TD MPs to raise their voice at the highest level to safeguard the interests of Muslims.
