Police Stop Kejriwal's March to PM's Residence Over E20 Fuel

New Delhi: AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday led a march towards the Prime Minister’s residence, submitting over 2.30 lakh petitions against E20 petrol, but was stopped by Delhi Police at Firoz Shah Road.
The protest began with around 100 participants, including vehicle owners whom the party said were affected by E20 petrol. Demonstrators carried bundles of petitions and raised slogans against the Centre’s ethanol-blended fuel policy.
Kejriwal was joined by former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and other party leaders. Police halted the march near 5, Firoz Shah Road, where the leaders staged a sit-in, insisting the petitions be accepted.
Police later took custody of the petitions after informing the delegation that the Prime Minister would not meet them. Officials said the protesters would not be allowed to proceed further.
“No one will be allowed ahead of 5, Firoz Shah Road. We have deployed adequate security, including Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, to maintain law and order,” a police officer said.
Separately, in the Punjab Assembly, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann alleged that the Centre was imposing E20 fuel without adequate research or consultation. He questioned the policy’s intent, alleging a link to ethanol imports from the US under the India-US trade framework.
Mann said a survey of more than 45,000 vehicles indicated that 67 per cent reported reduced mileage and 45 per cent reported engine damage.
“This is nothing but an “open loot” of the hard-earned money of common people, who purchase vehicles after years of savings and through EMIs,” he said.
He added that vehicle owners were facing additional repair costs due to the policy.
