Police Seek Court’s Approval for Further Probe Into Baba Siddique’s Murder
Court to hear police plea next week; Zeeshan receives new threat, security tightened

Mumbai: The Mumbai police has sought special MCOCA court’s permission to conduct further information into the murder case of former minister Baba Siddique. The police has already filed a chargesheet against 26 people accused of involvement in the murder. The court has issued notices to defence lawyers seeking their response on the plea and kept the matter for hearing next week.
The police have approached the special court under section 193(9) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita seeking permission to conduct further investigation. If allowed by the court, they must complete such investigation within 90 days or seek further extension of time from the court.
Special judge B.D. Shelke, designated under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), has issued notices to all the accused and has sought their responses to the police’s request. The matter is scheduled to be heard next on April 29.
The plea comes at a time when the police are probing a complaint lodged regarding a threatening email received by Zeeshan Siddique. The family’s lawyer, Trivankumar Karnani, also stated that they will make submissions on the police’s plea after reviewing it.
Siddique, 66, was killed on October 12, 2024, near his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra. Three assailants, alleged members of Bishnoi’s gang, opened fire on the car Baba had entered as he prepared to leave the office. The attack was swift, leaving no opportunity for his guards to react. The assailants were apprehended by the police while attempting to flee.
So far, police have filed a charge sheet against 26 arrested individuals. Anmol Bishnoi—brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi—and two others have been named as wanted accused. All the accused have been booked under MCOCA and are currently in judicial custody.
Earlier this week, Zeeshan had received death threat via emails. As per the complaint filed with the police, the sender of email, who claimed to be a member of Dawood Ibrahim’s crime syndicate, demanded Rs 10 crore and threatened to kill him in the same manner as his father if the money was not paid. The police have increased Zeeshan’s security after the threats.
