Plea In SC Seeks Survey Of Ayodhya Temple Land

The petitioner has sought directions to ensure compliance with the 2019 judgment if any material discrepancy: Reports

NEW DELHI: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking an independent survey to determine whether the Ram temple in Ayodhya stands on the exact land adjudicated by the apex court in its landmark 2019 verdict.

The plea, filed by the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Case Trust, has sought the constitution of a court-appointed committee or commission comprising survey, revenue, archaeological and other technical experts to verify the boundaries, coordinates and extent of the land.

According to the Supreme Court's cause list, the petition is scheduled for hearing on November 2 before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana.

The petitioner has sought directions to ensure compliance with the 2019 judgment if any material discrepancy is found between the adjudicated land and the site on which the temple has been constructed.

The plea also seeks directions to the authorities and the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust to preserve and produce original documents, maps, plans and surveys relating to the temple premises.

It has further sought additional facilities for devotees, daily digitisation and display of donations and offerings, and an annual audit of accounts by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India to prevent misappropriation.

In its November 9, 2019 verdict, the Supreme Court awarded the disputed 2.77-acre site for the construction of the Ram temple through a trust and directed the Centre to allot an alternative five-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for a mosque.

The Babri Masjid, which stood at the disputed site, was demolished by kar sevaks on December 6, 1992.
