Pankaj Chaudhary Named UP BJP President
Chaudhary filed his nomination for the post on Saturday and was the sole candidate in the fray. He submitted the papers to former Union minister and BJP state election officer Mahendra Nath Pandey and central election observer Vinod Tawde.

NEW DELHI, LUCKNOW: Union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary was named president of the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit. Union minister Piyush Goyal announced Chaudhary’s election to the post in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak in the state capital.
On Saturday, Chaudhary was the only one to file his nomination papers for the post. Yogi Adityanath, along Maurya and Pathak and jal shakti minister Swatantra Dev Singh, was present during the filing of the nomination.
Chaudhary will be the 17th chief of UP BJP. A seven-time Lok Sabha MP from the Maharajganj constituency, he belongs to the Kurmi community, categorised under the Other Backwards Classes (OBC) category. He is considered a confidant of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and defence minister Rajnath Singh.
Maurya said that the 2027 UP Assembly election was the next major challenge for the party and asserted that the BJP will secure an overwhelming victory under the leadership of the new president.
After Chaudhary’s election, outgoing state BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary handed over the party flag to his successor. Goyal presented Chaudhary with his certificate of election.
At the programme, Sangathan Parv, Goyal also announced the names of the party's 120 newly elected national council members. Prime Minister Modi represents Varanasi, Yogi Adityanath Gorakhpur. defence minister Rajnath Singh Lucknow, Maurya Prayagraj, and Pathak Unnao.
