On May 7, 2025, India launched "Operation Sindoor," targeting nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The targeted locations included Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Kotli.
Bahawalpur, in Pakistan’s Punjab province, is the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah, or Usman-o-Ali campus, is a key hub for JeM’s operations. Striking Bahawalpur aimed to dismantle JeM’s infrastructure.
Muridke, near Lahore, hosts Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa. This 200-acre complex includes training camps critical to LeT’s operations. Targeting Muridke disrupted LeT’s training capabilities.
In Kotli and Muzaffarabad in PoK, camps linked to Hizbul Mujahideen were hit. These areas are launchpads for infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir.
All nine sites were tied to major terror plots against India. Operation Sindoor aimed to neutralise these threats by destroying their infrastructure, sending a clear message that India will respond decisively to terrorism and defend its borders.
